Some walkways, escalator edges, and upper-floor viewing balconies at Baiyun Airport originally used traditional steel railings.
The view was heavily blocked–travelers on the upper floors couldn’t see gate signs or family members clearly.
The airport management wanted a solution that would improve visibility and the overall sense of space without compromising safety.
Glass Railing Guangzhou Baiyun Airport: Laminated Glass + 316 Steel
- Glass: Two 6mm tempered glass layers with a high-quality PVB interlayer. Even if the glass cracks from a hard impact, fragments stay bonded to the interlayer–no falling glass onto the floor below.
- This is crucial for an environment where thousands of travelers push luggage carts back and forth every day.
- Metal fittings: All 316-grade stainless steel. Baiyun Airport sees high humidity, daily cleaning chemicals, and occasional liquid spills. 316 stainless steel resists corrosion well.
Glass Railing Guangzhou Baiyun Airport: Easier Maintenance
The project was completed, the airport’s cleaning staff have told us: glass railings just need a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth and water. The old steel railings had many gaps that collected dust and were hard to clean.
Also, after several months of operation, there have been no reported incidents of glass breakage or injuries from luggage carts or accidental bumps.
